Chicago Sports Anchor Found Dead in Atlanta Hotel

NBC Channel 5 has reported that sports anchor Daryl Hawks, 38, on assignment in Atlanta to cover the Bulls game, was found dead in his hotel room today after he did not respond to his scheduled wake-up call. The cause of death is pending.

NBC sports anchor Daryl Hawks Hawks joined NBC Channel 5 in July, 2008, and on his bio, the website stated:

“When Daryl isn’t covering sports, he’s usually out playing them. The former semi-pro running back and U.S. Marine still loves playing tackle football, pick-up basketball, and his new love, golf. While in Jacksonville (Fla.), Daryl had the opportunity to share his love for sports and physical fitness, as a member of the Mayor’s Council on Fitness and Exercise.

“I workout everyday. Other than spending time with my family, it’s what I love doing most,” Hawks said.

The three-time Emmy winner and former Marine is survived by his wife, Sandy, and their two children.
