Taraji P. Henson will star in Gyre Entertainment’s sports drama “From the Rough.”
According to Variety, Pierre Bagley is directing and producing.
Michael A. Critelli’s script is based on the true story of the first female head coach of an NCAA Division I men’s golf team, Catana Starks at Tennessee State University.
Henson will play the fictional character Cassandra Turner, based on Starks, as a female coach at a historically black college who struggles to establish the school’s first men’s golf team.
Production will begin in New Orleans in early October.
Henson was seen recently in “Date Night and “The Karate Kid.” She recently wrapped shooting on “Larry Crowne” and “The Good Doctor.”
