Missy Elliott won’t be participating in the controversial Aaliyah album, but she does have new music of her own on the way.  The hip-hop icon is readying two new singles for release next month.

Timbaland announced that his partner-in-rhyme will drop “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat” in early September.

“oh snapp yall my sista @MissyElliott is droppin her singles #9thinning and #triplethreat labor day weekend. watch it world we backk!!!” tweeted the super-producer.

She debuted both songs earlier this spring at a private show in New York.  “9th Inning” samples lyrics from Run-DMC’s “Here We Go (Live at the Funhouse).”

Missy hinted at the new direction on her seventh album, tentatively titled Block Party.

“Betta let em know don’t expect the ass shake music we always do. Time 2 go more futuristic,” she told Timbo.

It’s been seven years since the Grammy-winning rapper released her last album The Cookbook.  In the past year, she has appeared on songs for J. Cole, Katy Perry, M.I.A., and Busta Rhymes.
