Life is hard behind bars. Kevin Gates takes viewers from a mansion to a jail cell in the emotionally-charged video for “Pride,” a single off the Louisiana rapper’s debut album Islah.
Directed by 1st Impressions, “Pride” shows the pain incarcerated men and their families can endure. The MC’s wife Dreka and daughter Islah appear in the clip, adding more depth to the vid’s somber tones.
Clad in an orange jumpsuit, Gates raps about battling depression and drug addiction. Over Carmelo production, KG also reminisces about better days, having breakfast by the beach, and filling a bathtub with fruit for his lady.
Despite “Pride’s” melancholy vibes, Islah is giving Gates a reason to smile. Selling 112,000 units, the LP named after his daughter landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 this week, a notch below Rihanna’s ANTI and a slot above Adele’s 25.
