After seven years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are going their separate ways. The superstar couple went public with their split in a surprise announcement on Friday.

“We have decided to end our marriage,” the pair said in a statement. “This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”

Lopez, 41, and Anthony, 42, married in June 2004 and welcomed twins Emme and Max in 2008. The singer-actress had been married twice before to Ojani Noa and Chris Judd and was involved in high-profile romances with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Ben Affleck, while Anthony was previously married to former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres.

Prior to their breakup, the couple announced plans to produce a television show together, “Q’Viva! The Chosen,” with “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller. According to the AP, the program was to showcase the entertainers as they traveled the world to find the next Latin superstars and bring them together for a live extravaganza.

Lopez released her seventh album LOVE? earlier this year and announced plans to return as a judge on “American Idol” for a second season.
