Superstar baby, Blue Ivy Carter’s name speaks volumes about her already charmed life. As the daughter of music icons Jay-Z and Beyoncé, she’s rightfully a blue blood who will live a silver-spoon life, and carry on the fame and power of the Carter name. It’s the kind of life that most dream of, but one that leaves many privileged kids disconnected from the real-life issues of the rest of the world and the character-building struggles that rule it. But if Jay-Z has his way, his daughter will be just as well-rounded and kind as the most humble of this generation’s kids.

In an interview with The New York Times Style Magazine, Jay pondered the ways in which Blue’s privileged life will affect her outlook on the world.

“I actually thought about that more before she was born. Once she got here I’ve been in shock until maybe last week?” he said of his bundle of joy, before comparing his own childhood in the Marcy projects with that of his daughter’s.

“We would fight each other. My brother would beat me up,” he said. “I was going to have to fight, I was going to have to go through some things, and they were preparing me.”

Jay-Z may have gotten much of his wisdom from his Brooklyn ghetto, but he knows that his daughter’s struggles won’t be as rough as his, although they will be as important. And, for him, the hope is that his little Blue learns the greatest lesson anyone can learn: self-love.

“She doesn’t have to be tough. She has to love herself, she has to know who she is, she has to be respectful, and be a moral person,” shared Jay.

From the looks of it, it seems like Blue has the pperfect father to help her learn that lesson and navigate the world as an open and loving individual. But Jay isn’t the only outstanding father in hip-hop. Check out some other amazing hip-hop dads below.
