Precious can add another achievement to its pile of accolades. The critically acclaimed novel-turned-movie earned eight NAACP Award nominations today (January 6), including for Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Independent Film.

Released this past December, the Oprah Winfrey– and Tyler Perry-produced film won three Sundance Film Festival Awards last year and picked up three nominations for the upcoming 2010 Golden Globe Awards.

Elsewhere in the NAACP nominees field, the Michael Jackson concert documentary This Is It and Clint Eastwood’s Nelson Mandela flick Invictus received nods for Outstanding Motion Picture.

Jay-Z and Maxwell lead all musicians with five nominations, including Outstanding Male Artist and Outstanding Album for The Blueprint 3 and BLACKsummers’night, respectively.

Meanwhile, the competiton for Outstanding Female Artist finds Whitney Houston, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and India.Arie battling it out. Keri Hilson and Jeremih are both nominated for Oustanding New Artist awards.

The Image Awards airs live Feb. 26 on Fox.
