Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V remains in the vault, but Birdman insists that the long-awaited album will finally be released this year.
During a visit to Rap-Up HQ to promote his Apple Music documentary Before Anythang: The Cash Money Story, Baby promised a 2018 release for C5.
“We’ll get that this year,” he said. “I’m guaranteeing you gon’ get it this year.”
Stunna went on to say that he’s “heard a few” of the songs that are slated to appear on the album and claimed that it will all be worth the long and arduous wait, exacerbated by Tunechi’s $51 million lawsuit against Cash Money.
“He is the best ever to me,” he said. “A lot of success comes from under his umbrella. I think it’s gonna be the biggest album of 2018, one of them. Without a doubt. It’s gonna be well worth the wait.”
Baby went on to discuss Tunechi’s legacy, while also touching on Tupac Shakur’s prolific output.
“You only have one Wayne and you only have one Tupac,” he said. “Tupac had 100 songs, before that we never knew of that shit. Wayne had 100 features. That shit is not normal in our business today. A ni**a might not want to hear two features from your ass. Let alone 100. Wayne had 100 No. 1s.”
During the interview, Birdman also opened up about his relationship with Toni Braxton, whom he recently became engaged to.
“She’s a legend,” he said. “She do her thing. She’s just prolific with that shit. I think she’s a one-of-one and a very special talent in the music business.”
