BET is really stepping up on the original series front, as they said they would; most recently was last week’s announcement of an original film titled Gun Hill, written and directed by Reggie “Rock” Bythewood, which will star Larenz Tate, Tawny Cypress, and Aisha Hinds.

Now comes word of a spinoff series of one of their new fall sitcom series, Reed Between the Lines, which stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Malcolm Jamal Warner. Reed Between the Lines hasn’t even aired a single episode yet, by the way.

This spinoff of the new series will be titled Young Man On Campus, and, I hear, will star 15-year old singer/actor Jacob Latimore(last seen on screen alongside Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo and Hayden Christensen in last fall’s Vanishing on 7th Street).

Latimore will first guest star on an episode (or two or three) of Reed Between the Lines, which centers on a married couple (Ross is a psychologist and Warner is an English professor) and their lives with their three children. His guest starring role will introduce his character – the precocious Jacob Matthews, a 15-year-old who’s way too smart for his grade level; and instead of hanging out in homeroom with the rest of his 9th grade mates, he’s a sophomore in college, where the series will primarily takes place, with Jacob’s life as a teen savant at its center.

Jacob speaks on the new show:

“We’re going to start filming the pilot very soon,” he said.

Expect Young Man On Campus to debut some time next year.
