Nicki Minaj opened the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards with a bang. For the second year in a row, her Minajesty had the honor of kicking off the show live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday. Fresh from her sold-out “Pinkprint Tour,” the three-time nominee kicked off her set with “Trini Dem Girls.” Dressed in red Carnival-inspired outfit with feathered headdress, the island gal busted out some sexy moves alongside her dancers before going into “The Night Is Still Young” as Kanye West and Kim Kardashian looked on.

But the biggest surprise of the night was when Taylor Swift joined her to duet on the latter. The two, who previously exchanged words on Twitter over the VMA nominations, showed solidarity by uniting on stage, both wearing matching red sparkly outfits. Taylor also performed her own hit “Bad Blood” before sharing a hug with Nicki.

The performance got Britney Spears’ stamp of approval.

“What a way to open the show! That is an instant VMA classic performance,” said the pop queen.
