Over the weekend, while filming the video for David Guetta’s “Light My Body Up” with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj took a moment to reflect on an early encounter with her mentor.

The Instagram caption began with lyrics from her “Go Hard” freestyle off 2009’s Beam Me Up Scotty.

“Tell ’em I’m the ninja, Weezy is my sensei,” she raps on the track. “So I call him Splinter, faster than a sprinter.”

Young Money’s First Lady recalled reciting the line in front of Weezy.

“I’ll never forget saying this line from one of my Mixtapes to Wayne maybe 8 or 9 years ago,” she wrote. “He’s on the freestyle with me called ‘Go HARD.’ it was my first time listening to it WITH him in the same room. Same studio right here in Miami.”

So how did Wayne react?

“He looked me dead in the eyes and in that (whisper voice), he smiled & said ‘I fuk wit it Nic, but the only thing is that… Splinter was a RAT. And we don’t FUK wit no RATSSSSSSS’. – FKN GOAT @liltunechi YOUNG MONEY TIL DA DEATH OF ME!!!!!!”

Nicki and Wayne remain tight, collaborating on her latest singles, “Changed It” and “No Frauds.” They recently shot a video for the latter — a collaboration with Drake — as well as Guetta’s “Light My Body Up.”

All of this appears to be leading up to Nicki’s next album, the follow-up to 2014’s The Pinkprint.
